Verbeck Law is pleased to announce that we’re offering some specials for clients during the Covid-19 quarantine. Currently, most county courts in California are closed, and so many traditional legal offerings aren’t very useful. However, this pandemic has made a lot of people think more heavily about the future, and there are a few packages we hope may be helpful.
Simple Will - $500
For a flat fee of $500, Verbeck Law will work with you to draft and sign a simple will, meaning a will with no associated trust and no more than 3 beneficiaries. This price includes any revisions you want to do before signature, and includes storage of a legal copy of your will in the firm’s safe. This is a great option for a simple estate, and it makes a lot of our clients feel better to know that they’ve taken care of so many potential problems for their descendants. 2. Power of Attorney / Medical Proxy - $400
A power of attorney and medical proxy form together give someone the legal right to make medical decisions for you if you’re incapacitated. Off-the-shelf Power of Attorney forms often don’t work well in California, and the addition of a medical proxy is extremely important if your chosen medical proxy isn’t a blood relative. This is a good idea for everyone, but especially for anyone whose chosen family isn’t the same as their biological family. V-Law PoA/proxies are customized to your situation, and we have a great deal of experience helping people with non-traditional families make sure their wishes will be followed in the event of an accident or serious illness.
3. Poly-Friendly Non-traditional Family Package - $700
Many people in the Bay area and around the country live in families that the law doesn’t recognize. Poly families, with multiple romantic relationships in the same household, are an example, as are the sorts of families created by disowned people, or anyone broadly estranged from their biological family. This package includes a consultation with Verbeck Law to determine which documents your situation calls for, and almost always includes reciprocal Powers of Attorney, Medical Proxies, and often documents from probate and civil contract law that will ensure that your chosen family is legally recognized. This is not per person; this package includes as many documents as we need to make sure you’re protected. Legal copies are stored in the firm safe, and we have ample experience litigating these arrangements against hospitals, the state, or excluded biological family members. This package also includes pre-signature revisions, of course.
